Beta Game

Image
The main elements like moving and  the avatar respawning when it hits an obstacle work, I've had trouble adding the side content for a few days. So I'm thinking of a new approach for the side content. Apart from side content I have had a few difficulties with some other things I was working on. Like the Hud and powerups. But I have found a few videos and websites that are going to help me.                                                                                     My Image: My new approach to side content. I' m quite behind on some of the targets I  set out for  my game but with the videos and advice I found online, I think I will able to implement the extra things I wanted. Overall I hope to make a game that I would be proud of.

Unity Tutorial 10

Image
My Image                                                                        In this Unity tutorial I learned how to more about how to create a game over screen, HUD and how to restart the game. The tutorial was really helpful for the starting process of making the HUD for my game. The tutorial was also helpful because  it taught me how to restart the game when a player hits an object, and this mechanic is definitely needed in my game. I really enjoyed doing this tutorial as it helps me to shape my game more and make it look more professional. The tutorials wasn't that difficult, I found a good  YouTube video to help keep the score in my game is I look forward to continuing on implementing  that in my game. I'm also looking forward to adding the  main aspects to my game and finishing it.

Twitter List

Image
Link to twitter list:  Game Development  I created this list because  this module is partially about games, and thought people might be interested in them. I found the accounts by looking up the word "game"  in the twitter search bar. This is my first time making a twitter list  I don't really use twitter that much.

Game Testing

Image
This week’s reading was about game playtesting, playtesting is a process where a game designer tests their game for bugs and design flaws before releasing it. I read some articles on playtesting to know more about it. And I will be giving my thoughts on them in this blog.     Image source: FutureGames The first article was “Seven Different Types of game Testing Techniques” the article talks about how important game testing is and gives 7 detailed techniques, I think this articles information is a good guide on what to do or what not to do when wanting to make a playable version of your game. For example, it has a list of some major risks in game testing: If the game doesn’t create a compelling experience for the niche audience If the fun factor missing in the games The game doesn’t include a player-centric design If the Game is not unique, fast-paced, or competitive The gaming app fails because of broken features, poor video, technical issues, bad mu

Wikipedia Trail - Stories in Games

Image
For this week’s Wikipedia trail, I’m choosing to do my topic on stories in games. I wrote a blog on it for this week’s reading task and thought it would be a good topic to do a Wikipedia trail on.   Image Source: PC Gamer The first article I chose was Storytelling game I chose it because it talks more about stories in games in depth. The information in the article is quite different form the information in the reading tasks articles. But it gives some new insights of stories in games.   The second article I chose was Universalis , Universalis is a role playing game that emphasizes on interactive storytelling. I chose the article because it talks about some elements in the game that makes the game have a good narrative.   The third article I chose was Lexicon , Lexicons is a computer assisted role playing game. I chose the article because I thought the instructions on how to play the game felt like a story introduction to the game.   The fourth article I chose was Mi

Unity Tutorial 10 - Spawning side content.

Image
For this week's unity task I decided to follow a tutorial on YouTube on how to spawn side content. Image Source: Spawn Overall, I learned how to add side content in my game, I also learned some new things like positioning from the tutorial  and I also learned some other  things from the other videos in the YouTube channel.     I enjoyed learning how spawn to spawn content form this tutorial, I think it will make my game look better as the avatar goes through the game. I also enjoyed picking up some tips from  the YouTube channel’s other videos on endless games.    I wouldn’t say that I had much difficulty when following this tutorial. When practicing how to spawn side content with unity asset’s that I already had, the only difficulty was scaling and position some of the objects the way I wanted it. Actually I did have a difficulty, when I put in the code and objects I made from the tutorial into my game.  It messed up some of my main functions of my game. luckily, I was able to t

Learning Challenge - Intensity and Consistency

Image
In this week's Heart Challenge I watched  a  RSA Animate adaptation version of Simone Sinek's talk on Intensity vs Consistency  .  Image Source: Paul Minors   One thing that the article confimred for me that I   already knew to be true was that if you are consistent in something you do over time you will see or get the benefits. One thing that I learned that I did not know before was that if you do something with intensity all the time sooner or later there will be repercussions. One thing that I'm curious to explore is if there can be a balance of intensity and consistency and can it work. I plan on doing this by  researching about both of the them more,  by reading articles and watching videos. Overall  I thought the information that the video gave was fascinating.

Game Stories

Image
On this week reading tasks I read some articles on what are  stories in games and how to make them better. Image Source: PreviewsWorld The first article I read was “ what every game developer needs to know about story ” by John Sutherland. The article talks about how stories are important in games, people want more meaning when they are playing games. Graphics and visual are cool but they don’t give players much sustenance. It also talks about how game developers can know more about classical story structure to make a simple but effective story and it saves time. Advice game developers could take is the three-art structure Climax, fall, closure.     Overall, the article gave some interesting information of what game developers should consider if they want to make good story for a game. The article would be very helpful and would be a good guide if I wanted to make a professional game. Image source: Wikipedia The second article I read was Mass Effect 2: A case study in the design
