Growth Mindset- Learning and Performance zones

This blog is about the learning and performance zone, the learning zone is about wanting to improve and doing activities to improve, the performance zone is about doing the best we can, concentrating on what we know and trying to make little to no mistakes.

                                                      Link to video: Eduardo Briceño

Eduardo Briceno talks about the learning zone and performance zone in depth in a Ted Talk. I thought that the video was very engaging and informative. As he talks about the effects of the learning zone and the performance zone  on a person, and what times they should be used depending on the environment.

“Once we think we have become good enough, adequate then we stop spending time in the learning zone, we focus all our time just doing our job, performing”. One thing that the video confirmed that I already knew was that when you learn a new skill and you think your good enough at it you don’t strive to improve because you are happy with the amount of skill you have.

One new thing that I have learned that I didn’t know before was, how you can have high performance in different aspects in your life by alternating between the learning and performing zone. I found it interesting when Briceno talks about Beyoncé implementing this in her tour that when she would finish a show, she goes back to her learning zone by watching the video of the show she just done. And she would look for how to improve herself, her dancers, and the camera staff.

One thing that I’m now curious to explore is how to play basketball and how to get better at it. To act on that curiosity I would  use the learning zone and the development zone to help build up my interest in the sport and to help motivate  me to want to become better in the sport as well.

Overall, I think the video was inspiring, I would use the points made in the video
in my life.
